News Bits

Joe Tipton: "Houston Christian guard Marcus Greene plans to enter the transfer portal, he tells @On3sports. The 6-2 junior averaged 15.1 PPG this season on 42.7% from three."

The 6-foot-2 Greene is out of Archbishop Mitty, Scotland Prep, Sacramento State and Panola College. This season, he averaged 15.1 points per game, shooting 45%, 43% and 78% respectively with 3.6 rebounds a contest and a team high 85 assists.

Houston Christian recently announced Head Coach Ron Cottrell has been fired. Might Santa Clara or San Jose State University want to bring Greene home even if it is just for one season?

6-foot-4 Issa Silva. Not wanting to pick apart a young man who has done nothing wrong but why the lack of development in his game? He earned high national rankings as a prepster at Jesuit High—a consensus national Top 100 recruit—and chose prestigious (academically) Stanford (PAC-12) as his college of choice.

Silva played two seasons on The Farm before departing, without making much of a basketball impression. Now in his latest game as a junior, he played just three minutes for Long Beach State (Big West Conference) versus UC Santa Barbara. This season in 31 games, 14 starts and just under 14 minutes a contest, he is scoring 2.8 points an outing while shooting 35%, 25% and 55% respectively. Silva possesses a 43/26 assist-to-turnover ratio plus 26 steals.

Is it simply a matter of being overrated? Reportedly, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Texas and USC were also in pursuit. How could so many prominent head coaches have been wrong in their evaluations?

Here's hoping Silva closes out his college career on the court strong and that he graduates. The latter is a given considering his academic honors in high school plus his ability to handle courses at Stanford.
