NCAA National Championship Game
So Coach Dan Hurley's design of letting Donovan Clingan defend Zach Edey solo (most of the time) worked as the rest of Edey's teammates shot very poorly (two of the starting guards shot 4-12 and 0-5 respectively). Plus, the Purdue bench provided a total of two points.
UConn received 13 points (from two role players) off the bench.
Clingan forced Edey into some bad misses but to his credit the latter still shot a solid 15-25. On one play, Clingan and Edey banged together at least four times (it should have registered on the Richter scale) before Edey made a jump hook going to his right.
It's interesting that three UConn players took more shots than Clingan's eight. Was that by design?
UConn shoots 6-22 from three point range, gets just 11 free throws yet wins by 15.

Portal Updates: "San José transfer Alvaro Cardenas has committed to Boise State. The 6’1” junior guard started 31/31 games for the Spartans, averaging 13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.0 steal. Cardenas shot 50% from 2, and 39% from 3 (45/117). Great pickup for Leon Rice, the addition of Cardenas gives the Broncos an experienced PG who is already very familiar with the MWC."
Boise plays San Jose State University twice this coming season. This is another knife allegory but where you slip it in and turn it twice. Coach Tim Miles worked his behind off during the COVID pandemic to get Cardenas, who had no other offers, to San Jose. Now, Cardenas will likely play a major role in the Broncos defeating the Spartans twice next season. But Cardenas deserves the chance to go out on a winning, successful season.

Travis Branham: "NEWS: Michigan’s Dusty May is hiring Saint Mary’s Associate HC Justin Joyner as an assistant coach, sources tell 247Sports. Joyner has helped Saint Mary’s to two conference tournament titles and two regular season championships. Reeled in Gaels’ star Aidan Mahaney and other Top150 recruits in Jordan Ross, Mikey Lewis and Zion Sensley."
Interesting move. Does Joyner feel he needs greater exposure and in a new geographic area? With jobs opened at Pacific, Long Beach State and Fresno State and not landing any (it's unknown which if any Joyner pursued), did he feel some sort of a change was necessary?
