News Bits

Deundrae Perteete Jr.: "Grateful and blessed to receive a basketball scholarship offer from Cal State East Bay! Excited for the opportunity to continue my athletic and academic journey."

A 2024 talent out of Salesian Prep, he stands 6-foot-6 and owns a 4.33 GPA. Here's our earlier feature.

Caleb Asante: "Blessed to receive an offer from Pacific University! Thank you Coach Lunt, Coach Hellstrom and the rest of the staff for believing in me."

Here's our Caleb Asante feature.

He's a 6-foot-5 lefty with a live body. Pacific University is just west of Portland.

..............................

Jake Lieberman: "Victor Desmond (6-foot-7, 190) out of Des Moines Area Junior College is hearing from the following, I'm told:

  • North Dakota
  • CSU-Pueblo
  • Wisconsin-Parkside
  • Cal State East Bay
  • Roberts Wesleyan
  • Tiffin
  • Missouri Western
  • Bemidji State
  • Minot State
  • Missouri S&T"

..............................

Connor Amundsen: "I am blessed and excited to announce that I am committed to playing Division 1 basketball at Dartmouth College after going through the admissions process! Thank you to all the Coaches who recruited me and to the Dartmouth Coaching Staff for believing in me! Go Big Green!"

Good for Connor whose 6-foot-0 stature kept higher level programs away. They will soon see the error of their judgment.

Here's our earlier feature on Amundsen.

Just saw that Dartmouth Coach David McLaughlin may be on the proverbial hot seat. The program hasn't enjoyed a winning record since the 1998–99 season (14-12). He is in his seventh year with a 61-122 overall record coming into this season.

"Tony Snell’s mission to return to NBA is bigger than just basketball"

Snell has made millions but wants healthcare for his sons. Interesting.

.............................

In 23 games/starts and 33 minutes an outing, 6-foot-3 St. Mary's sophomore Aidan (Campolindo High) Mahaney is averaging 14.1 points per game this season, shooting 39%, 34% and 82% respectively. The guard is grabbing 2.2 rebounds a contest with 61 assists versus 34 turnovers and 22 steals.

At the beginning of the season, I would have predicted a higher points per game average alongside a much higher overall shooting percentage. He is surrounded by quality teammates but none are likely headed to the NBA. So maybe Mahaney needs one or two of the Gaels to be must-guard-or-he'll-go-off talents in order to get more open or possibly he has simply experienced a shooting slump through most of 2023-24.

He shot 7-17, 4-10, 2-2 respectively on Saturday night versus host Gonzaga for a team high 20 points.
