Erik Spolestra talking about some of the new players on his squad: "...Jamaree Bouyea, the 24-year-old 6-2 guard the Heat signed to a two-way contract, who spent most of last season with the Heat’s G League affiliate.

“That was our hope going into the summer, that we were going to be able to sign him, bring him back for summer league and then continue our development with him,” Spoelstra said. “He made great strides this year. One, in terms of his body, he put on 10 pounds, a lot of strength, was in exceptional shape from a conditioning standpoint. He improved being able to run a team, get guys organized. And defensively and things that he can do with his speed are just super unique.

“So we wanted to have an opportunity to continue his development and have a second year at it. I think you’re going to see bigger jumps with him...”

Bouyea is the type of player and person you root for. He should prosper in Miami.

Puget Sound has a pair of Nor Cal-connected talents coming in:

Drew Krilich | 6-4 | Guard

Santa Rosa, CA / Cardinal Newman High

 Coach Shelton Quote:

Drew is coming home to Puget Sound after spending much of his youth growing up in Gig Harbor and attending Logger games!  A versatile and taller guard that can do it all, Drew led Cardinal Newman to an outstanding 27-4 record while earning First Team All-League honors, along with multiple All Tournament awards.  A 4.0 student and aspiring medical professional, Drew has earned a Seniors Honors Medal, Scholar-Athlete (5 times), Principle List, and Certificate of Honor for Society of Sport and Modern Band (he's a musician as well).

and

Hugo Rutherfurd| 6-9 | Forward

San Francisco, CA / San Francisco Waldorf School

Coach Shelton Quote: "Hugo is a long, athletic, hard-working big whose potential is sky high. A four-year starter and three-time captain, this past season he led San Francisco Waldorf to a 25-4 record and its first-ever Division 6 State Championship. Along the way, Hugo posted multiple triple-doubles, including one in the championship game. Hugo earned All-League honors three times, and he was selected league MVP this past season - along with being awarded SFIAC Athlete of the Year. Hugo's rare combination of size, athleticism, and motor should bring quite the  buzz to the Fieldhouse."
