........................................

"Miles Byrd impacted both scrimmages in similar ways, mostly by playing to his strengths as a catch-and-shoot weapon, passer and defensive playmaker.

Despite a high-arcing shot that seemingly takes forever to reach the rim, he buried multiple threes in both games, much like he regularly did throughout the college season. He showed his vision from inside the arc on cross-court passes. But nothing stood out more than his defensive activity and anticipation.

He was fun to watch on that end of the floor, constantly looking to jump lanes and predict ball-handlers' moves. None of this was surprising, as he registered a wild 4.3 percent steal rate at San Diego State.

Byrd still seems more likely to wind up in the second round on teams' big boards. Whether he stays in the draft or withdraws will come down to personal preference and goals, specifically how much he cares about securing a guaranteed NBA contract and/or playing in the G League versus returning to be a college star making NIL money.

But Byrd clearly has an attractive NBA archetype as a three-and-D wing who can create for others in ball-screen situations."

Wouldn't know what direction to advise him to go but seemingly a lot of teams could use someone who will be a plus defender and can pop enough treys to require coverage. Late round one and you would know what you are getting. Coach Dutcher has to have been stowing away enough NIL $$$ to make Byrd's return attractive.

AND

"Gladiator basketball is excited about the commitment of 6’3 185 G/F David Rodgers Jr (Redwood Christian HS) San Lorenzo, Ca. From "18 tough stay-or-go decisions for NCAA players participating in the 2025 NBA Draft Combine":

"5. Darrion (Capital Christian High) Williams

  • TEAM: Transfer Portal (via Texas Tech)
  • ESPN RANKING: 46
  • DECISION: TBD

Darrion Williams spoke about his own decision (via CBS Sports): "Just decided I wanted to put my full focus onto the combine. It wasn't nothing deeper than that. I haven't even been thinking about college. I haven't been taking any calls. Just focusing on this right now ... I'm going to take it all the way to the deadline on the 28th and I'm going to make the best decision for me ... I'm open to [coming back to school] but I want to be full-in on the draft. I didn't want to be one foot in, one foot out. I wanted to be full. If I have to go back, I'll go back. But I want to stay in the draft."

Williams, who did not have a great performance during his first five-on-five scrimmage, confirmed that returning to Texas Tech is still an option for him as well. According to Isaac Trotter, the "external expectation" is that Williams returns to college."

AND

"10. Miles (Lincoln High) Byrd

  • TEAM: San Diego State
  • ESPN RANKING: 51
  • DECISION: TBD

Here is what Jeremy Woo wrote about the decision (via ESPN):

His productivity in college, particularly as a defensive playmaker, held intrigue for teams all season. Stepping in and showing he belongs in this setting will help. Still just 20 years old, Byrd has the option to return to school if he doesn't feel good about his chances of landing a guaranteed contract.

Byrd scored 11 points while shooting 3-of-6 on 3-pointers and adding four assists during his first scrimmage at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine.

He measured just short of 6-foot-5 barefoot but has a 6-foot-10 wingspan and 8-foot-6 ½ standing reach."

AND

Another Byrd analysis:

"Byrd showed instincts, feel for the game this week

Jonathan Givony

San Diego State's Miles Byrd displayed at the combine his unique basketball instincts that made him one of the best defensive playmakers in college basketball. His 5.1% block and 4.4% steal percentage combo had been accomplished only a handful of times in the past decade before this season, by the likes of Tari Eason and Matisse Thybulle -- something that was quickly flagged by NBA analytic models as being of significant interest.

Byrd showed he can still rack up blocks and steals despite the increased level of competition from the Mountain West Conference to the combine. He had four blocks and five steals in 52 minutes in Chicago, with several impressive moments rejecting jumpers, rotating to protect the rim from the weakside, sniffing out passing lane steals, busting up handoffs and picking ball handlers from behind with cat-like instincts and his 6-10 wingspan.

Offensively, Byrd helped himself ppshooting 5-for-11 from 3 in two combine scrimmages after making 30% of his 3-pointers at San Diego State the past two seasons. His ballhandling is a mixed bag, and his 182-pound frame raises questions about whether he has the build to be a defensive stopper in the NBA, as his outstanding playmaking numbers suggest. But overall, Byrd had a positive combine for a 20-year-old redshirt sophomore. A big decision awaits May 28 when Byrd will elect whether to withdraw his name from the draft, as it's not clear at this stage whether he has done enough to solidify his standing as a surefire first-round pick."

AND

Jonathan Givony: "The most impactful performance of the NBA Combine scrimmages thus far belonged to Stanford's Maxime Raynaud, with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Raynaud showed his versatile skill-set at 7'1, scoring from all over the floor, as well as impressive intensity defensively."

He shot 7-12, 2-5 and 4-4 respectively.

From Ersin Demir: "24. Oklahoma City Thunder

Maxime Raynaud (#42, Stanford): Senior, 7’1”

The Thunder adds another versatile ball-handler who’s a legitimate seven-footer. Their emphasis on size, skill on all positions, and floor-stretching makes him the perfect addition to a lack of three-point shooting from their five-spot. If it weren’t for Flagg, Raynaud would have been ACC Player of the Year. His composure, fluidity, and great footwork make him one of the best players available later in the first round. For Oklahoma City, adding experience is vital while they extend their window of winning by putting winning players deep into the depth chart. Despite not having a clear path to play immediately, Raynaud will grow into a good role while the Thunder continue to seek their NBA title."

........................................

CSU East Bay Men's Basketball: "Takai, Let’s work! Welcome to the Bay!"

Fitting choice and good place to be for 6-foot-7, 220 poundTakai (Vanden High) Hardy after two seasons up at Idaho.

Overtime Elite: "Wei Zhao has committed to SAN FRANCISCO 🚨 THE 6’0” PG averaged 13.9 PPG l 6.6 APG l 1.3 SPG for the Cold Hearts this season."

A young point was a need for USF. Junior Ryan Beasley does return and senior Isa Silva is coming off a redshirt year.

He stands 6-foot-9, is a 2026 talent and attends Archbishop Riordan.

........................................

Portsmouth Invitational Tournament Basketball: "Player of the Game from our 7pm contest between Portsmouth Sports Club & Roger Browns is TexasTechMBB’s Chance (Bethel High/Golden State College Prep/Grand CanyonU) McMillian."

More of a shooting guard than a point, McMillian isn't the biggest at 6-foot-3 so it may have to be Europe for him. But he'll surely give the Big Show his best effort. He shot 52%, 43% and 89% this season.
