David Hector Selects Southwest Baptist U in Mizzou

6-foot-4 Chabot College sophomore guard David Hector averaged 14.1 points (51% shooting overall, 36% from three-point range) plus 9.4 rebounds a game this season, just missing a double-double as a per game output. Add in 3.3 assists a contest alongside 1.3 steals. This production occurred while playing just under 29 minutes a contest. He also posted a 3.7 grade point average in the classroom. So it's no stretch to write that DII Southwest Baptist University in Missouri is getting an on the court and off the court gem.

Asked what he'll be bringing to the Bearcats program, he offered, "I'm a winner first and foremost and a great teammate."

With basketball, Hector breaks the family mold to a degree. "My Dad played basketball but I have cousins who played football at California, USC and Colorado State and a great uncle who was in the NFL."

After his senior year under Coach Frank Knight at Moreau Catholic High in Hayward, Hector headed south to Balboa School near San Diego for a prep season. But a torn meniscus and the COVID-19 pandemic interfered with his progress and he eventually returned to the Bay Area, landing at City College San Francisco. Hector didn't play much with the Rams during 2021-22 and then moved across the Bay to Chabot College for the following season. "Chabot is about 10 minutes away from where I live," Hector explained. "I visited Chabot and my Dad talked with Coach (Keenan) McMiller." It was a go.

About his 3.7 grade point average, Hector explained, "I've always done well in the classroom, giving the same effort I display on the court."

Besides his documented production on the court, he sees himself as a leader on the court. "I talk a lot and also make sure I'm ready to play."

His best basketball moment took place during his sophomore year at Moreau (2016-17). "We made a state championship run after starting out 2-9. We had a 22 game winning streak before losing in the playoffs (to Esperanza of Anaheim)."

He's looking to major in sports management.

Hector thanked "my family the most for helping out during my ups and downs."
