Texas Tech 91, Colorado 75 box. For TT, Chance (Jesse Bethel High/Golden State Prep/Grand Canyon) McMillian tallied 15 points, shooting 6-8 overall, 3-4 beyond the three-point stripe.

Louisville 85, California 68 box. Jovan Blackshear Jr. led the Bears with 22 points but Andrej (Jesuit High) Stojakovic scored but four points, shooting 2-11 overall, 0-4 from long distance. Notre Dame 56, Stanford 54 box. In a defensive-oriented pairing as the victors shot 35% and Stanford 33%, the visiting Cardinal led by three after 20 minutes but couldn't hold on and fell. Maxime Raynaud scored 20 points with 10 boards. In the last minute, Stanford missed two jumpers which would have tied the score. "IRISH TOPS CARDINAL IN CLOSING SECONDS/Stanford athletics"

Thu, Mar 6, NCAA D1 scores

San Diego 81, Pacific 77 box. In Las Vegas, the Tigers were ahead by six points after 20 minutes but were out-scored by 10 in the second half although it was close to the very end. Elias Ralph posted a 23 point, 11 rebound double-double but did commit six turnovers. Teammate Lamar Washington enjoyed 14 points, eight assists, five steals and four boards. Pacific finishes the season 9-24 overall, 4-14 in the West Coast Conference. The Tigers won four more conference matchups than last season.

UC Irvine 88, UC Davis 59 box. TYJohnson enjoyed 24 points on just 15 shots and his total included going 9-11 at the foul line. Irvine led 47-25 at the half and out-shot the homestanding Aggies overall 59% to 35%.

Cal State Bakersfield 76, Hawai'i 64 box. In Bakersfield, 6-foot-2 Oahu native and freshman point Aaron (Salesian Prep) Hunkin-Claytor earned credit for eight assists on 24 Hawai'i baskets, further cementing his starting role for next season. He played 35 minutes.

UC Riverside 94, Cal State Northridge 79 box. Mahmoud (Santa Teresa High/West Valley College/Cal State San Bernardino) Fofana produced 16 points, six boards and a couple of steals but host Riverside still nabbed the win. If there was one, when was the last time UC Riverside and Cal State Northridge both enjoyed 20 win seasons (like 2024-2025)? Coach Andy Newman took over at CSUN two years ago and went 19-15 in his first go-around. That's truly amazing.

"...In the only boys Open game Wednesday, fourth seed Salesian turned up the heat on defense, forced 20 turnovers in a 66-53 win over No. 5 Modesto Christian at Albany High School.

Carlton Perrilliat (19 points), Elias Obenyah (14) and Alvin Loving (nine) led the way in an impressive win over an experienced and explosive team. A deep bench also showed itself with 25 points from non-starters. That depth is largely why the Pride pressed all night. Gavin Sykes had 21 points and Myles Jones added 16 for Modesto Christian (24-9).

Salesian (28-3), coming off a humbling NCS Open finals loss to De La Salle, now plays top-seed Riordan in a semifinal game 7 p.m. Saturday. De La Salle, the second seed, hosts third-seed Folsom on Saturday night..."

Mitch Stephens: "Carlton Perrilliat is really an amazing athlete. Don't see many high level football-basketball players like him. At 6-5, his future might be football as game-breaking WR. But wow, he's really fun to watch on the break, and with interior moves. So quick...quick jumper."

News Bits

6-foot-4, 190 David Young departed to the Evergreen State after graduating from Folsom High. Now in his second season at Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington, Young has earned Northwest Athletic Conference First Team honors as well as named the NWAC West Region Defensive Player of the Year. He averaged 11.8 points per game on 42%, 33.5% and 68% shooting, He was the second leading scorer on his squad.

................................................

Shams Charania: "The Bucks are signing guard Jamaree Bouyea on a two-way NBA deal, sources said. Bouyea has played 14 NBA games in parts of the last two seasons, and averaged 20 points for the Austin Spurs in G League this year."

He's out of Palma High and USF. One backcourt spot is taken as long as Dame Lilliard is there but preparing a point for the inevitability of Father Time gives Bouyea a better chance with the Bucks than he had with the Spurs.

................................................

Jake Lieberman: "San Jose State was in to see CJ Willenborg last night. He ended with 18 points & 4 assists. Also is receiving interest from UC Riverside & Fairfield."

His 18 points including shooting 4-8 from three-point range and he enjoyed five assists (per the WVC site). Both of his totals were team bests.

Another Lieberman tweet says "Lieberman "is now receiving interest from Bowling Green, FIU, ODU and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Holds an offer from Stetson. Just named to All Freshman Team."

Out of Capital Christian High plus other schools, the 6-foot-3 Willenborg has three to play and will be in action on Saturday with West Valley College. A Spartan offer would be attractive and only require a move of 11 miles. He seems to be more of a combo guard than a straight point but that may be due to what his team needs the most this season. If UC Riverside's interest turns into an offer, Willenborg would also likely snapped it up.

"Cal-Hi Sports Northern California Boys Basketball Player of the Week Lucas Lau (University, San Francisco) Jr.

We wrap up our trips around the state this week to a private high school in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco that’s about 10 blocks from an apartment on Gough Street where Cal-Hi Sports founder Nelson Tennis began writing up state record lists for California high school sports in the late 1970s. It’s there where the Runnin’ Red Devils have been a force on the NorCal scene since 2005 under head coach Randy Bessolo. He’s also been instrumental in running the CaliLive sanctioned summer basketball events in Northern California.

University has stamped a ticket to Wednesday’s CIF North Coast Section D2 semifinals against Moreau Catholic of Hayward after a pair of high-scoring wins last week in which Lucas was seemingly connecting on every shot he took. In a 76-68 win over Terra Linda of San Rafael in the second round, Lau racked up 37 points and he handed out seven assists. Then in the quarterfinals he did even better than that with 40 points to lead University past Las Lomas of Walnut Creek, 83-67.

Lucas, who also has a 4.0 GPA, also had 35 points in his previous game before last week, which was against San Domenico of San Anselmo, and in a win that gave the Red Devils their 16th league title in the last 18 seasons. In addition to the 112 points in the last three games, he also has had 19 assists and 16 rebounds."

Jake Lieberman: "2027 prospect NJ Gray Jr. out of Branson School HS (CA) tells me that he holds offers from the following programs:

The six-footer may wish to stay in the East Bay-ish area (Berkeley) but man, nab that Stanford offer and hold on tight. Sure, 2026 Modesto Christian High's Myles Jones has already committed to the Cardinal but he can play both backcourt spots.
