News Bits

Devin Aye: "San José City College’s King Calhoun has committed to an athletic scholarship to NCAA II University, West Virginia Wesleyan!"

WVW has a student population of 900 and operates a D2 hoops program. Calhoun is a 6-foot-3 sophomore guard.

.........................

Nicholas Podesta: "DJ (Stickman) is every bit as good as advertised! He’s coming off an outstanding Summer during the scholastic and grassroots viewing periods, picking up multiple Division 1 offers along the way. An exceptional athlete, DJ is a standout defender who is also an ELITE passer. A real winner!"

and

Simply Basketball: "DJ Stickman (6'3 2025) does it all on the court , can pick up 94 ft and guard the best perimeter player, electric around the rim and makes his teammates better! The 2023 TRAC player of the year, is looking to go back2back league MVP."

Montana has offered along with Fresno State, whose coach Vance Walberg used to coach Stickman at Clovis West High.

Here is close to a 24-minute interview featuring new Pacific AD Adam Tschuor. He recently hired a new men's basketball coach and isn't burdened as some are with fielding a costly football program. He came from Dayton which curiously also doesn't have a football team offering scholarships. Pacific has fielded strong hoops teams in the past but certainly not consistently of late.

.........................

Not Nor Cal related but 2025 #1 prospect AJ Dybantsa played for Prolific Prep up to recently and now he has announced his college possibilities and it's a shocker that neither Kentucky nor Duke appear. His choices right now are Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, BYU, Kansas, Kansas State, and North Carolina.

One HS/college scout has indicated BYU is the leader but that may simply be a reaction to his leaving PP for a Utah prep school. Regardless, he's one and done.

Again, not Nor Cal related but you have to read this:

Can a College Sports Team Be for Sale? Howard Will Find Out

Coach Kenny Blakeney is offering one-third of the program for $100 million.

He hasn’t spoken to the school about his plan yet.

.........................

The late Denny Crum surely never gave any thought to his headstone being delayed by international warfare/politics. Jeez.

.........................

"...Lance Carr, SF, Dallas Showtyme - Each time we watch Carr play, he separates himself with his athletic ability. Nothing changed this time around as he could always be found flying to the rim for exciting finishes. A 6-foot-7 wing who is finishing his high school career at Dallas (Texas) Kimball High, Carr displayed an improved jumper from three-point range. The shooting potential combined with his special gifts as an athlete makes his upside very intriguing. Columbia, New Orleans, Princeton, San Jose State, and UAB are a few of the schools interested in getting Carr on campus for a visit this fall..."

Travis Branham: "Jackson McVey, a seven-footer out of Team Curry and Overtime Elite, is taking an official visit to Stanford this weekend and also has visits set to Florida State (Sept. 1) and Georgia Tech (Sept. 14), a source told 247Sports."

Jackson McVey: "Blessed to receive an offer from Stanford." (posted on Saturday, August 4, 10:28 a.m.)

and

The Ohio State Hoops Insider: "RECRUITING DECISION ✂️ 2025 top-40 7’0” Center Eric Reibe out of The Bullis School (MD) has cut his list to eleven schools: Ohio State, UCONN, HU, UNC, IU, KU, UK, CU, WV, Stanford, and UO."

.........................

College Basketball Report: "Ques Glover is walking on at Ohio State and paying his tuition with NIL funds, via @OSUHoopsInsider. Glover redshirted for Kansas State last season, but averaged 17.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 3.5 APG, and 1 SPG on 56.2% TS from 2021-2023 at Samford."

Again, not Nor Cal related but seemingly a first for college basketball. The Ohio State men's hoops program must be flush. Football I could easily understand but to convince a player who has some talent to come in minus a schollie has to mean he has received say at least $50K in NIL $$$. Right?"

Glover has earned frequent flier miles. Tobias: "Glover played at Florida for two years too. Samford next. Committed to BYU and left after NIL deal funds were not available by BYU. Mark Pope supported him. On to Kansas State where he got injured right away."

.........................

Clint Parks: "One thing is VERY CLEAR the last 2 weekends. CalMBBall is ALL IN on Jovani Ruff they have been front and center to see their committed recruit. He's going to be SPECIAL at Haas Pavilion."

A Cal commit on June 5, Ruff is a 6-foot-5 guard who still has a year to go at Long Beach Poly.

.........................

Cal's Jaylon Tyson enjoyed his time in the NBA Summer League as his numbers attest.

.........................

Robert Icart: "2025 Wing Peyton White has been officially offered by San Jose State University."

White is a 6-foot-6 forward out of the Southland.

and

Anthony Spencer: "I am blessed to receive an D1 offer from San Jose State University."

Spencer is a 6-foot-8 2026 frontcourter out of Texas but now playing in Arizona.

.........................

San Joaquin Delta College: "Congratulations to Dom Victor on his commitment to Campbellsville University."

The 6-foot-6 Victor is a sophomore who graduated from Manteca High. He scored 12.0 points plus 6.9 rebounds per game this past season. Campbellsville University is located in Kentucky.

.........................

"High-major coaches taking notice of 2026 G Myles Jones"

Out of Modesto Christian High, the 6-foot-3 Jones is finally receiving some national recruiting coverage.

.........................

The Ohio State Hoops Insider: "Former Buckeye, Ibrahima Diallo (played for SJSU & UCF after OSU) will play for the San Antonio Spurs Summer League team."

The 7-footer had a solid junior year with San Jose State University and then received an NIL money offer from Central Florida which he accepted and he moved on to the Sunshine State.
