"Cal Men's Basketball Roster Overview" - Write For California

.........................

Chabot Gladiator Basketball: "Gladiator 6’8 Sophomore C Demetrius Howard has committed to a full scholarship to Governors State University in Chicago, Illinois."

The timing seems unusual but getting an education fully paid for is always fantastic. Howard averaged 4.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and blocked 38 shots in 28 games last season, playing 16 minutes a contest. The 6-foot-8 talent is out of Las Vegas.

.........................

Diego Martinez: "COMMITTED!! 💜💛"

Missed this from May. Martinez is a 6-foot-6 wing out of Valley Christian High in San Jose.  He earned First Team All West Catholic Athletic League this past season after shooting 55%, 37% and 82% while scoring 21 points per game. Now, he'll be playing for Gator Coach Vince Inglima.

.........................

Godson Eyita: Blessed to receive my first D1 offer from the University of California, Berkeley 💙💛. Thank you Amorrow Morgan and the entire staff for believing in me."

A 2027 prospect, Eyita stands 6-foot-9, weighs 230 pounds and attends school in Santa Maria.

.........................

Stockton Kings: "The Stockton Kings have agreed to trade the returning player rights to Jordan Ford and Deonte Burton and a 2025 second-round NBA G League Draft pick to the Wisconsin Herd in exchange for the returning player rights to Drew Timme."

.........................

Elijah Sykes: "Excited to take a visit to Alma College on October 19th."

The 5-foot-10 and 2025 class member Sykes attends Sheldon High and plays AAU with the Rose City Ballers. Alma College is located in Michigan.

.........................

Devaughn Dorrough: "Extremely blessed to have received another Division 1 offer from Sacramento State."

Dorrough is a freshman at Monterey Trail High and plays in the spring and summer with the Oakland Soldiers. He received an earlier offer from Washington.

.........................

Verbal Commits: "2026 Newman (MA) F Quinn Costello has received an offer from Stanford."

.........................

Obinna Ekezie Jr.: "Very blessed to receive a scholarship offer from UCLA. Thank you for the opportunity!"

Ekezie will have all the 'vaunted' programs offering before his recruitment is completed.  Those now 3 hour+ plane rides to fellow ACC campuses are not a plus for the Bruins.

"Jaylen Wells Looks Like a Second-Round Steal for the Grizzlies"

Out of Folsom High and Sonoma State, and as the 39th selection in the draft, Wells is making NBA scouting departments look really bad  His is a great story.

.........................

"Grizzlies Sign Miles Norris..."

Morris starred at City College San Francisco in the 2019-20 season, averaging 16.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.4 blocked shots and 2.0 steals per game. He earned Player of the Year honors.

.........................

Basketball Recruitment: "2025 6'3 PG Ace Glass has trimmed his list to the following schools.

Finalists:

  • Texas A&M
  • Wyoming
  • Stanford"

If he isn't in Palo Alto next season then a sanity check will be required. Glass has tripped to all three schools but he's a SoCal young man -- does Buzz Williams have that much charisma? Wyoming? Coach Sundance Wicks will be elected the next governor of the state if Glass signs as a Cowboy.

.........................

Basketball Recruitment: "2025 7' C Xavion Staton has completed an official visit to Stanford."

Staton would be another great get for Coach Kyle Smith.

.........................

Basketball Recruitment: "2025 6'6 CG Ty Virgil has completed an official visit to Pacific."

Virgil is out of the Sacramento area and is currently at Hillcrest Prep in Arizona.

.........................

HS Top Recruits: "Hearing Indiana, Michigan and Iowa are schools to watch for Winters Grady."

Again, Grady is from Oregon but playing at Prolific Prep in Napa, CA. My ear is to the ground but all I'm hearing are lonesome trains clanging back and forth. I'll close this out now before I burst into a an unforgettable (in the very bad sense) country song.

.........................

The Field of 68: "Joined by San JoseState MBB's Tim Miles, Josh Uduje and Will McClendon NOW!!"

By their selection to appear at Media Day, my interpretation is that Uduje will be the starter on the wing and McClendon will start at the point. The latter had a good if miniscule assist-to-turnover ratio last season with UCLA.

.........................

Recruits Zone: "INFO: 2028 prospect Dylan Ziegler tells me that he has received an offer from Stanford. Lengthy combo-guard who’s crafty with the ball in his hands. Has an advanced step back game."
