.........................

Simply Basketball: "Kellen Hampton (2025) receives offer from Pepperdine."

A WCC offer and a campus that doesn't seem like it's in LA -- quite the attractive match.

.........................

Pro Insight: "Top-10 2027 Gabe Nesmith has committed to Coach Ryan Bernardi and Prolific Prep for 2024-25."

Nesmith was playing in Florida and has an offer from Arizona State.

  • Colorado
  • New Mexico
  • Cal
  • San Francisco

Carr is a 6-1 lead guard with good burst who can score the ball, make plays for his teammates and lock up defensively. #73 in the ESPN100."

Didn't know earlier that two Nor Cal schools are in the running for Carr. Colorado just received a commitment from So Cal prep point Isaiah Johnson so...

.........................

Abram Potts: "After a great talk with Coach Hamilton, I am excited and thankful to receive an offer from George Fox University! Thank you for believing in me."

Nate Garth: "Josiah Andrews is the definition of a true pg. defends 94 feet, lives in the paint, and has a mid range pull up that is moneyyyy. Nothing flashy, just all GAME. The kinda player you want in the fox hole with you."

The 6-foot-1 and 2026 Andrews attends Rocklin High and plays AAU with Team Lillard.

.........................

Ball Don't Stop: "Jaylen Wells might be the steal of this years draft 🤯 The Grizzlies rookie stole the show in Vancouver last night (August 18) with 51 points. Three-level scorer, athletic and poised."

Prior to the NBA draft, it's near impossible to fully determine who has reached his peak versus who has a ways still to go AND will make it his mission to still work hard.

.........................

Golden State Prep Basketball: "Congrats to our guy Ariya Briscoe on his commitment to CSU Monterey Bay."

A 6-foot-1 guard, Briscoe has also played for West Valley College.

  • Colorado- 8/28-8/29
  • New Mexico- 8/30-8/31

What’s the move for him?"

Coach Mark Madsen will woo Carr to Berkeley even it if takes roadblocks on every highway and zero flights allowed from anywhere in California to Boulder and Albuquerque.

.........................

Nate Garth: "Aiden Rollins. If you want a plug and play guard. A 2 way guard. A tough competitive battle tested kid with genetics that’ll only contribute to his growth and development. Just don’t be late to the party if you get in now you will thank me later!!"

The 6-foot-3 Rollins is attending Franklin High and plays AAU ball with Team Lillard.

In late June, SoCal talent evaluator Devin Ugland wrote this:

"Like the progress from 2026 guard Aiden Rollins of Franklin (Elk Grove). Improved feel as a playmaker in half-court and transition situations. 6-3 with rangy frame and great defensive instincts. Crafty finisher around the basket. Underrated rising junior in California."

.........................

CTB Groundup: "6’10” Forward Tyrese West has only been playing basketball for 1 year… he is quickly developing guard skills and outside shooting definitely going to be a player to watch class of 2027… GROUND UP!!"

West attends Fremont High in Oakland.

.........................

College Basketball Report: "Seeing Tyrell Terry back on the basketball court makes me so happy. His story:

  • Top-80 recruit out of HS, signed with Stanford
  • 2019-20 — Got buckets at Stanford, started every game as a freshman, and went one-and-done
  • 2020 — Went No. 31 overall in the NBA Draft to the Dallas Mavericks
  • 2020-2022 — Tyrell played sparingly for both the Mavericks and Grizzlies but was a stud in the G League
  • 2022 — Tyrell suddenly announced his retirement from the game of basketball, citing crippling anxiety as the cause
  • Today, he just participated in the TBT for Assembly Ball. I hope things are trending up for him ❤️"

JUCO Advocate - Brandon Goble: "Some prep schools going to be famous for human trafficking sooner rather than later."

Yikes.

.........................

Lakeshow: "(6-foot-5) Cole (Loud) is a winner! Do it ALL guard. Pac West & CCAA interest @fknightsays"

Loud attends Moreau Catholic High.

.........................

Horacio Jones: "Shamar Jones & TKB Basketball headed to China for 10 days of competition, cultural exchange and community engagement. 6’5” CG with a 6’11” WS."

Jones will be a senior at Mountain House High. His level of  recruitment will be interesting because he possesses D1 athleticism and solid strength/size. Let's see where college coaches assess his present skills set.

.........................

It's more than way too early but Aran Smith's 2025 mock draft contains a pair of Nor Cal college talents:

"14. Tyler Harris 6-8 190 SF Washington So.

Harris opted to transfer up to Washington after a solid freshman campaign at Portland (*edit,no longer at Portland). He’s a long, athletic wing who shows nice scoring ability. His huge 7+ foot wingspan gives him excellent defensive potential, but it’s clear he needs to add more strength and toughness. Harris had an inconsistent freshman season, but ended up with an impressive 12 ppg, 7 boards and three point shooting in the 35% range, on nearly one make per game."

and

"24. Andrej Stojakovic 6-7 200 SG California So.

Stojakovic moved on from Stanford but didn’t go far, crossing over to the East Bay to play for Mark Madsen at California. Stojakovic had a very solid freshman season in which he showcased some ability to finish at the rim as well as knock down outside shots. He doesn’t have quite the elite level outside shot of his father Peja, but the makings are there for him to be a very solid shooter and all around wing. A substantial jump in production is on the table as he looks to fill the shoes of first rounder Jaylon Tyson at Cal."

.........................

"CPH athletics partners with Influxer to create NIL opportunities"

.........................

NBA G League: "The NBA G League United roster is starting to take shape! 🇲🇽 NBA champion and @CapitanesCDMX star Juan Toscano-Anderson will represent the G League at the Fall Invitational and FIBAIC."

JTA lives! The pride of Castro Valley High.

News Bits

Chabot Gladiator Basketball: "Gladiator 6’4 Soph G Coast North Conf MVP (All State Selection) Zach Broadous has committed to a full scholarship to Cal Poly Pomona University."

Longtime Coach Greg Kamansky and CPPU got an absolute steal here. Take it to the bank that Broadous will be the leading scorer for the Broncos next season.

.........................

Jeff Goodman: "Iowa State’s TJ Otzelberger told thefieldof68 that Charlotte transfer Dishon (St. Patrick-St. Vincent High) Jackson has been biggest surprise this offseason. “He had as good of a summer as anyone in the program.” The 6-11, 270-pound Charlotte transfer averaged 11.4 points and 6.1 boards last season for the 49ers. Otzelberger said that he can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket, and finishes well with both hands.

The Cyclones lost three senior frontline guys in Robert Jones, Hason Ward and Tre King that were important to their success a year ago, so Jackson - along with St Mary’s transfer Joshua Jefferson and Seattle transfer Brandton Chatfield - will need to fill that void.

Otzelberger said that the 6-8 Jefferson, who averaged 10.2 points and 6.5 boards for the Gaels before suffering a season-ending knee injury in February, returned for Iowa State’s final 6 practices and was impressive."

.........................

Chase Rawlins: "I will be visiting UC Davis on August 29th."

Glad to see that a NorCal D1 is interested in the 6-foot-6 2025 backcourter.

.........................

DaMari (Los Banos High) Tate of West Hills Lemoore College is heading to Simpson College up in Redding.

Tate stands 6-foot-4.

.........................

CCCMBCA: "We've also learned that Ravi Bhambhra at Alameda and John Fusano at Sierra have stepped down. Haven't heard names of replacements."

College of Alameda lacks any effort to take men's basketball program seriously. Until that changes, the program will remain known as a coach killer.

Fusano is a longtime Sierra College coach whose overall team talent has fallen off of late. More energy is needed. A new coach can win in Rocklin so it will be interesting who is selected.

.........................

Blake Bastani: "Blessed to receive an invite to CP3 Rising Stars Camp August 23-25th!"

Bastani is now at New Hampton School in New Hampshire but don't forget the 6-foot-5 2027 sharpshooter.

.........................

"Spurs To Sign Malachi Flynn"

Flynn is a point guard so not sure how this signing effects point Jamaree (Palma High/San Francisco) Bouyea who is also on the roster of the Spurs, as a two-way player.

.........................

From hoops evaluator Paul Biancardi comes these two items after the big time summer tournaments: 1) AJ (ex-of Prolific Prep) Dybantsa is listed as tops in NBA potential and 2) Tounde Yessoufou is credited as hardest playing.

.........................

Basketball evaluator Eric Guilleminault offers his take on a Bay Area talent:

Semetri Carr 6’0 PG Riordan Class of 2025

"I’ve watched Semetri Carr in a few consecutive sessions, first at EYBL (KC, then at Pangos, and finally with his Riordan team at Section 7. This was by far where he showcased himself the best. Carr led Riordan to a 3-1 record and a championship game versus Millennium. He showcased his impressive athleticism first off a baseline, out of bounds, catching a 2 handed lob, then later catching a one handed lob off the fast break. Throughout the weekend, he made 3 pointers at a high rate, even making a few on four-point plays. Lightning quick, Carr can get downhill and showed here the ability to absorb contact and finish plays off. Both with the Oakland Soldiers and here, he seemed to prioritize fitting in and featuring other scorers, so this was a good change of pace to remind scouts of his offensive potential. With his height, there is little room for error for him to make it to the top level."

Santa Maria may be too far south to count as Nor Cal but again here's a great young man who gives his all:

Tounde Yessoufou 6’5 SF St Joseph (Santa Maria, CA) Class of 2025

"In front of a crowd of power 5 coaches, Tounde Yessoufou showcased his complete offensive game. Against Millennium he served as an offensive hub, swinging the ball around and getting assists for his teammates. In the same half grabbing an offensive rebound and finishing it with a thunderous dunk. On the defensive side of the ball with his long wingspan closing out hard on Cam Holmes and forcing a rushed air ball shot. Tounde throughout the weekend showcased his improved mid-range game and how difficult it was to stop him from getting to the rim. On defense, he can shut the best offensive opponent down or disrupt the flow of a play all by himself. In addition, he is an excellent communicator both on offense and defense. He has worked on his shot so much that once considered a liability, the question isn’t whether can he shoot it; but can he extend the range to the pro line? Yes, his body probably fully matured a couple years ago, but his improvement in his game is such that scouts can tell that he works hard on it and that he still has room to add layers in his development."

.........................

Fresno State has received a commitment from 6-foot-5 wing Brian Amuneke out of the SoCal Academy. It looks like he is a 2025 prospect but there is confusion over 2024 or 2025.

.........................

John Bynum Jr.: "Brian Carter (Fresno CC) has committed to Belmont Abbey College. Carter averaged 7.9 points and 2.9 rebounds last season for the Rams."

Carter is a 6-foot-4, 210 sophomore.

.........................

Mountain Stars Basketball: "Congrats to Josiah Sanders for his offer from Stanford University!"

Sanders is a 6-foot-4 point out of Colorado.

.........................

The Portal Report: "🏀Dave Smart and PacificMensBB have added an impressive transfer portal class in his first season in Stockton:

  • Lamar Washington, 6-4 G, Texas Tech
  • Elijah Fisher, 6-6 G, DePaul
  • Donyae May, 6-0 G, Connors State (JUCO)
  • Jefferson Koulibaly, 6-3 G, SMU
  • Jazz Gardner, 7-0 F, Nevada
  • Petar Krivokapic, 6-4 G, FIU
  • Elias Ralph, 6-7 F, Victoria (Canada)
  • Kristupas Keinys, 6-8 F, Minnesota
  • Seth Jones, 6-2 G, Tallahassee CC"

.........................

California is one of many pursuing 6-foot-9 Salt Lake City CC sophomore forward Xavier Edmonds. He would be a very solid catch for Coach Mark Madsen who seemingly has a gazillion offers out in the recruiting galaxy, focused primarily on prep talents.

.........................

Basketball Recruitment: "2025 6'4 SG C.J. Shaw has trimmed his list to the following schools.

Finalists:

  • Xavier
  • Saint Mary's
  • UC Santa Barbara
  • UNLV
  • Utah State
  • UCSB"

Also: "Shaw is a tough, hard-nosed defender who’s excellent on the ball. Can score the ball from all three levels offensively and is shifty with the ball in his hands. #99 in the ESPN100."

News Bits

COS guard Jose Cuello has committed to Maryland Eastern Shore. He's still not landing at the level his talent should place him but at least he's closer to home (New York City) than his previous commit (Southeastern Louisiana).

.........................

Ersin Demir offers close to 2,500 words in detailing his choices of the college players who will earn All-American status next season. This guy is prolific and deserves signing up for a subscription.

"Former College of San Mateo Standout Selected No. 1 in Taiwan Professional Basketball League Draft --- Sam Manu takes his talents home"

.........................

Simply Basketball: "Jalen Stokes (2025) will be attending Dougherty Valley this 2024-25 school year!"

The 6-foot-5 guard was attending Dublin High.

.........................

Verbal Commits: "2026 Tri-Cities (GA) F Jalan Wingfield has received an offer from California."

Wingfield stands 6-foot-7.

.........................

JUCO Offers: "Lewis Sanchez (6’3/G) of Modesto Junior College is looking to transfer. Sanchez is a microwave who can heat up at anytime and scores in bunches. Played the sixth man role this season and averaged double figures! High iq guy as well. GPA- 4.0."

.........................

Kaden Powers: "After a good meeting I am blessed to announce that I have received an offer from the University of Washington!!! Thank you Coach Sprinkle and staff!"

The 6-foot-5 2025 guard is out of Rainer Beach so it looks like his earlier offers such as the one from San Francisco are realistically nil and void.

.........................

Robert Icart: "2025 Peyton White has been officially offered by UC Davis."

San Jose State University also recently offered White, a 6-foot-5 wing. UC Riverside, Portland, Cal St Fullerton, Rice, Montana St, Montana, Cal Poly, HPU, Weber State and Samford are also official suitors.

and

Robert Icart: "2025 PG Isaiah Johnson has been offered by UC Davis."

Rice and Weber State also recently extended offers to the 6-foot-1 SoCal point.

.........................

Archbishop Riordan point Semetri Car received an offer from San Francisco on July 26. He visited on August 3. Stanford has also offered as have numerous others.

.........................

It's hard to believe that 6-foot-5 2025 guard Gavin (Modesto Christian High/West Coast Elite) Sykes hasn't generated more attractive offers than Vermont, Sam Houston, California, Long Beach St, Southern Utah, San Jose St, Montana, Sacramento St, and UC Riverside.

California is the ringer at this point, especially considering the Bears now play in the ACC.

.........................

Simply Basketball: "Roy Bishop (2026) will be attending Fremont HS (Oak) next season! The electric guard was at Berkeley HS last season! "

.........................

John Bynum Jr.: "Nate Behr (Mendocino College) has committed to Evergreen State College. Behr averaged 7.8 points and 10.2 rebounds last season for the Eagles."

The 6-foot-7 Behr is out of Montana and Evergreen State College is located in Olympia WA.

.........................

Gavilan College Men's Basketball: "Congratulations to Kashwell Pugh on signing a scholarship with Doane University Men’s Basketball to further his education and continue his basketball career! Big time young man right here!"

.........................

Verbal Commits: "2025 Colorado Prep (CO) G Josiah Sanders has received an offer from Stanford."

News Bits

Devin Aye: "San José City College’s King Calhoun has committed to an athletic scholarship to NCAA II University, West Virginia Wesleyan!"

WVW has a student population of 900 and operates a D2 hoops program. Calhoun is a 6-foot-3 sophomore guard.

.........................

Nicholas Podesta: "DJ (Stickman) is every bit as good as advertised! He’s coming off an outstanding Summer during the scholastic and grassroots viewing periods, picking up multiple Division 1 offers along the way. An exceptional athlete, DJ is a standout defender who is also an ELITE passer. A real winner!"

and

Simply Basketball: "DJ Stickman (6'3 2025) does it all on the court , can pick up 94 ft and guard the best perimeter player, electric around the rim and makes his teammates better! The 2023 TRAC player of the year, is looking to go back2back league MVP."

Montana has offered along with Fresno State, whose coach Vance Walberg used to coach Stickman at Clovis West High.

.........................

-

Here is close to a 24-minute interview featuring new Pacific AD Adam Tschuor. He recently hired a new men's basketball coach and isn't burdened as some are with fielding a costly football program. He came from Dayton which curiously also doesn't have a football team offering scholarships. Pacific has fielded strong hoops teams in the past but certainly not consistently of late.

.........................

Not Nor Cal related but 2025 #1 prospect AJ Dybantsa played for Prolific Prep up to recently and now he has announced his college possibilities and it's a shocker that neither Kentucky nor Duke appear. His choices right now are Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, BYU, Kansas, Kansas State, and North Carolina.

One HS/college scout has indicated BYU is the leader but that may simply be a reaction to his leaving PP for a Utah prep school. Regardless, he's one and done.

.........................

Again, not Nor Cal related but you have to read this:

Can a College Sports Team Be for Sale? Howard Will Find Out

Coach Kenny Blakeney is offering one-third of the program for $100 million.

He hasn’t spoken to the school about his plan yet.

.........................

The late Denny Crum surely never gave any thought to his headstone being delayed by international warfare/politics. Jeez.

.........................

"...Lance Carr, SF, Dallas Showtyme - Each time we watch Carr play, he separates himself with his athletic ability. Nothing changed this time around as he could always be found flying to the rim for exciting finishes. A 6-foot-7 wing who is finishing his high school career at Dallas (Texas) Kimball High, Carr displayed an improved jumper from three-point range. The shooting potential combined with his special gifts as an athlete makes his upside very intriguing. Columbia, New Orleans, Princeton, San Jose State, and UAB are a few of the schools interested in getting Carr on campus for a visit this fall..."

.........................

Travis Branham: "Jackson McVey, a seven-footer out of Team Curry and Overtime Elite, is taking an official visit to Stanford this weekend and also has visits set to Florida State (Sept. 1) and Georgia Tech (Sept. 14), a source told 247Sports."

Jackson McVey: "Blessed to receive an offer from Stanford." (posted on Saturday, August 4, 10:28 a.m.)

and

The Ohio State Hoops Insider: "RECRUITING DECISION ✂️ 2025 top-40 7’0” Center Eric Reibe out of The Bullis School (MD) has cut his list to eleven schools: Ohio State, UCONN, HU, UNC, IU, KU, UK, CU, WV, Stanford, and UO."

.........................

College Basketball Report: "Ques Glover is walking on at Ohio State and paying his tuition with NIL funds, via @OSUHoopsInsider. Glover redshirted for Kansas State last season, but averaged 17.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 3.5 APG, and 1 SPG on 56.2% TS from 2021-2023 at Samford."

Again, not Nor Cal related but seemingly a first for college basketball. The Ohio State men's hoops program must be flush. Football I could easily understand but to convince a player who has some talent to come in minus a schollie has to mean he has received say at least $50K in NIL $$$. Right?"

Glover has earned frequent flier miles. Tobias: "Glover played at Florida for two years too. Samford next. Committed to BYU and left after NIL deal funds were not available by BYU. Mark Pope supported him. On to Kansas State where he got injured right away."

.........................

Clint Parks: "One thing is VERY CLEAR the last 2 weekends. CalMBBall is ALL IN on Jovani Ruff they have been front and center to see their committed recruit. He's going to be SPECIAL at Haas Pavilion."

A Cal commit on June 5, Ruff is a 6-foot-5 guard who still has a year to go at Long Beach Poly.

.........................

Cal's Jaylon Tyson enjoyed his time in the NBA Summer League as his numbers attest.

.........................

Robert Icart: "2025 Wing Peyton White has been officially offered by San Jose State University."

White is a 6-foot-6 forward out of the Southland.

and

Anthony Spencer: "I am blessed to receive an D1 offer from San Jose State University."

Spencer is a 6-foot-8 2026 frontcourter out of Texas but now playing in Arizona.

.........................

San Joaquin Delta College: "Congratulations to Dom Victor on his commitment to Campbellsville University."

The 6-foot-6 Victor is a sophomore who graduated from Manteca High. He scored 12.0 points plus 6.9 rebounds per game this past season. Campbellsville University is located in Kentucky.

.........................

"High-major coaches taking notice of 2026 G Myles Jones"

Out of Modesto Christian High, the 6-foot-3 Jones is finally receiving some national recruiting coverage.

.........................

The Ohio State Hoops Insider: "Former Buckeye, Ibrahima Diallo (played for SJSU & UCF after OSU) will play for the San Antonio Spurs Summer League team."

The 7-footer had a solid junior year with San Jose State University and then received an NIL money offer from Central Florida which he accepted and he moved on to the Sunshine State.
