Andrew Ferrara-Jones of Sacramento City College clearly likes numbers, especially his, and understandably so. Like being a two time All League selection as well as second in league in made threes in 2023-24 alongside ending this season eighth in the state in made threes. The sharpshooter finished fifth in the Big Eight Conference in scoring plus he holds the school records for made threes season and career.
So it only makes sense that his goal is to gain work as a certified public accountant. But he wants to continue playing for as long as he can. The CPA work would initially come in the off-season.
Regarding the latter, Ferrara-Jones is taking his skills set to the University of California Santa Cruz, home of the Slugs. He'll be playing for Coach Matt Malone.
Why UCSC? "I liked the situation as both a basketball player and student. I think I can make an immediate impact and the team will be making six plane rides during next season to games in Washington, Virginia, Connecticut and Washington D.C. I also liked having the opportunity to graduate from a University of California campus because I think that will help with landing internships and jobs."
He'll major in business at UCSC. Having Santa Cruz as a home base afterwards or returning to hometown Sacramento would both be fine after graduation. Remaining somewhere in California after college is the goal.
Malone and his assistant Trevis Jackson "first made contact with me in early January." Jackson played overseas for four years in the Philippines Basketball Association so he has some contacts and experience with playing overseas which may prove helpful.
His goals this coming season are to better his shooting percentages. "I want to go from 41% to 43% or 44% on threes and join the 50/40/90 club. This past season, he also shot 43% overall and 86% at the foul line.
UC Santa Cruz has a College 9 and a College 10 within itself. It's too bad no College 3 exists but maybe it will after Ferrara-Jones is finished as a Slug.
